There is nothing quite like food cooked on a grill. It has a savory flavor that can’t be recreated by a stovetop or oven. The only issue is that most grills need to be used outdoors, so if it’s rainy or too cold, you can’t grill. That is, of course, unless you get your hands on the best George Foreman grill. These amazing grills can be used indoors, which is one of the reasons they have become so popular. These grills are also known for their unique grease removal technology, durability, and high-quality materials.

There are many different versions of this grill on the market. Though they are all from the same company, each one will offer a different twist based on how it works. We looked at the overall size of the grill, the type of surface used, how many servings can be made at a time, and how it can be cleaned. We also checked whether or not the plates are removable. Removable plates will make cleaning the grill a whole lot easier, which is a big time saver.

Since there are so many different versions of this grill on the market, we took tens of hours to read through hundreds of user reviews. This allowed us to find the 6 best rated George Foreman grills out there for our comprehensive list. The George Foreman GGR50B became our favorite.

George Foreman GGR50B

Features
  • Grilling surface: 240 sq. in.
  • Servings: 15+
  • Removable plates: yes
  • Dimensions: 17.9 x 17.9 x 14.8 inches (w/o the stand)

One of the biggest issues when it comes to an electric grill is that they are not large enough to cook a lot of food at once. That is, thankfully, not the case with this model. This is the biggest model on our list as it offers over 250 square inches of cooking surface. This will allow you to cook pretty much everything and anything that you want to, no matter if you’re going to do steaks, burgers, or veggies. It is so large that it can fit up to fifteen serving on it at once, making it a great option for parties or family gatherings.

As you would expect from George Foreman, this grill has their patented sloped grate design, which allows most of the fat and grease to drip down away from the food, helping to make it much healthier. These grates can then be removed for easy cleaning, as can the drip tray. This easy-to-clean design will make sure your food keeps tasting great, and your grill lasts for a good long time.

Unlike most other George Foreman grills, this model is made to be used with a stand or on a countertop. This stand, while not the sturdiest, makes this feel much more like a standard grill – an excellent option for outdoor use, especially if you have a patio or deck. You can also use this grill indoors, though it might be a bit too large for some kitchens.

    What makes it special?
  • Removable cooking plates
  • Can be used with or without stand
  • Easily adjustable temperature
  • Large cooking surface
  • High number of servings at one time
  • Fat removing slope
    What cons did we find?
  • Stand could be sturdier
  • Might be too large for indoor use

Best for Large Families

George Foreman GR2144P

Features
  • Grilling surface: 144 sq. in.
  • Servings: 9
  • Removable plates: no
  • Dimensions: 8.8 x 7.25 x 5.5 inches
  • Warranty: 3-year limited

More features: fat-removing slope; doubles as a panini press

If you have a large number of people that you want to cook for, but you don’t have enough space for a big grill like the previous model, then this might be a good option for you. It doesn’t come with a stand, so this is strictly a countertop grill, but it is still quite large. Though it can’t cook for fifteen people at one time, it should be more than large enough for a big family and can make up to nine servings simultaneously.

Another big benefit to this grill being a bit smaller in size is the fact that it is quite lightweight. This helps to make it a good option for anyone that has a lot of cabinet space and doesn’t want to keep their grill out all of the time. Even if you put this grill into a top or bottom cabinet, you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting it out to use without any help.

There are a few things to keep in with this particular grill, however. One of the biggest is the fact that grease tends to pool at the back of the grill near the hinge. This can be corrected by placing a board under the grill to increase the slope. If you don’t have anything handy to increase the slope, then you just need to be sure to clean out the grease after each time you grill.

Something that helps with the overall value of this grill is the fact that it can be used for more than just meats and vegetables. It actually doubles as a panini press. It can be used to create delicious sandwiches, making it all that more of a useful tool in the kitchen.

    What stands out?
  • Can be used as a panini press
  • Large cooking surface
  • Lightweight
What cons did we manage to find?
  • Plates can’t be removed for separate cleaning
  • Grease pools at the back of the grill – needs regular cleaning

More features: removable drip tray, dishwasher-safe, 3X more durable, variable temperature control

If you’re searching for a family-size George Foreman grill, the GFS0090SB should be an excellent choice. While there is a party size variation that offers up to 172 square inches of cooking space, this one is much smaller. However, with a 90-square-inch non-stick grilling space, you should have no problems cooking a few burgers for the family during the weekend. The grill consists of removable plates for when you need to throw them into the dishwasher. That said, the plates snap back onto the main device relatively easily the next time you have to cook something.

Under the plates, there are removable drip trays which also happen to be dishwasher friendly. Their job is to cool the grease that drops from the plate before it starts smoking. Consequently, unlike most other grills where you have to worry about smoke, you can use the GFS0090SB inside the house with no worries. The device operation should also be a cinch with a knob on the side with three temperature settings: low, medium, and high. Once the temperature is selected, an indicator light next to the knob lights up and will remain that way until the desired temperature is reached.

The small frame of the grill is also advantageous for storage. Once you’ve cleaned and snapped back all the components together, it shouldn’t take up much space in your cabinets, especially if stored vertically.

  • Grilling surface: 200 sq. in.
  • Servings: 12
  • Removable plates: no
  • Dimensions: 22.25 x 12 x 9.1 inches (w/o the stand)

No matter how you slice it, when you think of grilling, you think of the great outdoors. No matter if you are used to grilling for parties, family, or tailgating, it’s always nice to have a grill you can use outside. Of course, using a gas or charcoal grill can be a bit of pain or all but impossible if you are an apartment dweller. If you are looking for an outdoor grill but want to use an electric model, then this is an excellent option. It is light enough to maneuver around to bring inside when not in use, but still rather heavy duty for use outdoors, though the stand isn’t the sturdiest one.

Aside from the sturdy design, something else that helps to make this such an intriguing option for use as an outdoor grill for parties is its large cooking surface. With this grill, you will be able to cook for twelve people all at once, making this an excellent option for bigger gatherings. Even if you have more than twelve people coming to your party, you will be able to keep up with the demand if you choose this grill.

This is also one of the more versatile grills in the George Foreman lineup. The controls allow you to set the heat to five different levels. All of these different settings make it very easy to find the perfect temperature to cook pretty much anything, no matter if you want to grill meat, fish, or vegetables.

    What are our favorite features?
  • Large cooking surface
  • Stylish
  • Versatile cooking controls
  • Easy to remove drip tray
  • Removable stand
    What could be better?
  • Stand is not very sturdy

Easiest to Clean George Foreman Grill

George Foreman GRP472P

Features
  • Grilling surface: 72 sq. in.
  • Servings: 5
  • Removable plates: yes
  • Dimensions: 16 x 11 x 5.5 inches
  • Warranty: 3-year limited

More features: ceramic coating; dishwasher safe plates

This model is very similar to the previous one in many different ways. First of all, it can also be used as a panini press. This double duty design helps to make it a great option for anyone that is looking for a faster way to make delicious meals for lunch or dinner. Of course, this grill isn’t quite as large, so it can only cook for five at a time, which is still plenty of food.

Something that helps to set this model apart from many of the different George Foreman grills out there today is how easy it is to clean. Not only can the cooking grates and drip tray be removed for easy washing, but they can also be placed in the dishwasher. This basically makes the cleaning process completely hands-free, which is a big plus if you have a large family keeping you busy all of the time. The easy clean design of this grill will help to keep it working properly for years to come.

The only thing that you will need to keep in mind with this particular appliance is that it takes a bit longer for it to warm up than other George Foreman models. While most models get up to the right temperature in about two to three minutes, this one takes up to five minutes. Of course, once it is up to the right temperature, it does a wonderful job of grilling food to perfection.

    What makes it stand out?
  • Removable dishwasher-safe cooking grates
  • Ceramic coating
  • Sloped cooking surface
  • Doubles as a panini press
  • Compact design for smaller kitchens
Which disadvantages must you keep in mind?
  • Takes a long time to heat up

  • Servings: 4
  • Removable plates: yes
  • Dimensions: 12 x 12 x 6.5 inches
  • Warranty: 3-year limited

More features: adjustable hinge; drip tray; sloped grilling surface

If you are living in a smaller space, you most likely have a very compact kitchen. If that is the case, the last thing that you can do is keep a new appliance out all of the time. Of course, that also probably means that you don’t have a ton of cabinet space to play with either. This grill, thankfully, is nice and small, making it ideal for anyone that is looking to save a lot of space but still grill delicious food.

It should come as no big surprise that a grill with such small dimensions is not really made to be used for cooking a ton of food at once: it can only make four servings of food at a time, making it ideal for a small household. Otherwise, cooking times are just going to be too long.

You might be wondering what types of food you will be able to cook with such a small grill and whether or not the size of your meats will be an issue. This shouldn’t be a problem with this particular model, thanks to its adjustable hinge. By adjusting the hinge, you will gain a whole lot more clearance, which will allow you to cook larger pieces of meat without too much trouble.

    What makes it stand out?
  • Removable plates
  • Compact design for smaller kitchens
  • Easy-to-use drip tray
  • Sloped cooking surface
  • Lightweight
  • Adjustable hinge
Which disadvantages must you keep in mind?
  • Limited cooking area; only good for a couple or a very small family

Things to Consider

In this section, we will go through everything you need to know to find the best George Foreman grill, no matter if you are cooking hamburgers or a chicken breast. We have also taken the time to answer some frequently asked questions, so be sure to check those out as well if you still have questions about what to look for in a grill.

Why have George Foreman grills gained such popularity?

These grills have become a fixture in our society, especially for anyone who is health-conscious or just wants to make a great meal on the grill in the comfort of their own kitchen. This brand of grill has become famous for several different reasons, such as:

  • Reliability – One of the best features for this type of grill is that it runs on electricity. This makes it easy to find a fuel source basically wherever you go. Unlike propane, natural gas, or charcoal model, George Foreman grills will never run out of fuel. They also heat up much quicker than a fired grill, making them a much quicker meal option. Plus, as long as they are cleaned properly, these grills will not break down at all in comparison to an outdoor fired grill, making them a sound investment.
  • Easy to Maintain – Since these grills run on electricity, they are exceptionally easy to maintain. Unlike an outdoor fired grill, which needs to have cooking grease cleaned off in addition to any smoky buildup from the fire, a George Foreman grill only needs to be wiped off to remove any small bits of meat that might be left behind. No matter if you get a ceramic or non-stick model, this is quite easy to do. All you have to do is get a cloth with some dish soap and wipe it away.
  • High-Quality Design – One of the biggest reasons that this grill is so easy to clean is because of its high-quality design. All of these grills are slightly sloped. While this might not seem like that big of a deal, it truly is the center of why these grills are so effective. This sloped surface allows fat and grease to flow away from your food down into a grease container. This helps to keep your food from being overly greasy, while also helping the grill to stay much cleaner.
  • Small Dimensions – Even if you have an outdoor grill for your patio, it is still a good idea to have a smaller one for indoor use. The small dimensions of a George Foreman grill make it possible to store in a cabinet with ease when you are not using it. Of course, even if you want to store it on your counter all of the time, its small dimensions and sleek design make it a welcome addition instead of an in the way eyesore.

Features to consider while choosing a George Foreman grill

6 Best George Foreman Grills — Awesome Taste from the Trusted Manufacturer
As with any grill, there are several different factors that you need to take into account when you are looking for the best George Foreman grill. In this section, we will go through everything you need to know so you can find the perfect model for your needs.

Grilling surface and its coating

When it comes to the surface for your new George Foreman grill, you have two different options. You can either select a ceramic or standard non-stick surface. Both of these surfaces are effective at grilling your food to perfection. They are also both non-stick, which makes cleanup that much easier, not to mention the fact that you don’t need to use anything to grease up the grill beforehand.

The premium ceramic coating like you’ll find on the George Foreman GRP472P, however, takes this a step further. While this coating will cost a bit extra, it is guaranteed to be fade and stain resistant and 5x more durable. It also conducts heat more effectively than a standard nonstick surface.

Servings

The number of servings that any grill can cook is based on how large it is. For instance, a larger grill, such as the George Foreman GGR50B, can make a lot more food at once than a small model, like the George Foreman GRP1060B. The number of servings you need is going to be determined by how many people you have to cook for at a time.

If you live on your own and only need to cook for one, then a smaller model is perfect. If, however, you have a large family or want to use your new grill for parties, then a larger model makes a whole lot more sense.

Removable plates

6 Best George Foreman Grills — Awesome Taste from the Trusted Manufacturer

While all George Foreman grill models are elementary to clean, none are quite as easy as the George Foreman GRP472P. This grill has removable grates, much like an outdoor model. Unlike an outdoor grill, however, these grates are dishwasher safe, which makes cleaning them a breeze. They are also non-stick, which helps to keep them from getting too terribly dirty in the first place.

Dimensions

When it comes to selecting the right size grill for your home, the number of servings you need to cook is again going to come into play. If you are only looking to cook for a few people or even just one, then you can get a much smaller grill. If, however, you want to cook a lot of food all at once, then a larger model, like the George Foreman GFO201R, is going to be your best bet.

Obviously, the size of your kitchen and storage area is going to come into play here as well, so be sure to think about where you can store your new grill before you make your final purchase.

Weight

How much your new grill is going to weigh is going to be based on how large it is. The biggest models are obviously going to be much heavier than the smaller models. If you are going to keep your grill on your counter in your home all of the time, then the weight isn’t going to be that big of a deal. On the other hand, if you intend to keep your model in a cabinet and only bring it out every time that you grill, you will want to be sure you get one that is light enough for you to lift it with ease.

Warranty

As with any new piece of cooking equipment, it is best to look for one that has a good warranty. That way, you will be covered if something were to happen to your grill from normal wear and tear. You just need to be sure that you make sure you keep up with the regular upkeep of your grill, or you might accidentally void the warranty and lose coverage of the most essential parts.

More features

6 Best George Foreman Grills — Awesome Taste from the Trusted ManufacturerAside from the sloped design of the grill, nothing is more important to the function of a George Foreman grill than an easy-to-empty drip tray. These trays are used to collect all of the greases that come off of the food when cooking and need to be emptied so that they don’t overflow.

Another feature to keep in mind when you are looking for a new grill is an adjustable hinge, like the one on the George Foreman GRP1060B. This feature makes it possible to have the grill open a bit wider or close a bit tighter. This could be extremely helpful if you are cooking something larger, such as a steak or huge piece of chicken.

How to clean your grill

Cleaning your new George Foreman grill is a pretty simple process. All you have to do is follow a few simple steps each time to keep it working like new.

  • Turn off the power and let the grill cool down.
  • If your grill has removable grates, take them out and wash them by hand or in your dishwasher.
  • If your grill’s grates cannot be removed, take a washcloth and wipe them off with warm water and dish soap.
  • Allow the grates to dry before storing your grill to prevent rusting.
  • Empty and wash your grill’s drip tray every time you use it. Do not dump grease down your drain.
  • Replace drip tray.

FAQ

What is the George Foreman’s patented Fat-Removing Slope?

Unlike most grills, a George Foreman grill has a sloped design. Since the grates are made out of non-stick materials, this allows all of the cooking grease to flow away from the food, which helps to remove a large portion of the fat in the process. This helps the food cooked on these grills to be much healthier than meat cooked on another type of grill.

What’s the adjustable hinge, often seen in small models, for?

The adjustable hinge on smaller models allows the grill to be opened up a bit larger, which in turn allows them to be used for cooking larger pieces of meat, such as a steak or a chicken breast.

Which coating is better – non-stick or ceramic?

No matter which surface you get, standard non-stick or ceramic, you will be getting a non-stick surface. The main difference is that ceramic is a better heat conductor and a bit easier to clean, making it preferable, though more expensive, cooking surface.

Our verdict

The George Foreman GGR50B is perhaps the best overall George Foreman grill on the market today. It is quite large, making it great for parties or for large family gatherings. It is also very easy to clean and has the patented fat draining slope to make all of the food much healthier.

Of course, you are not looking for such a large model, then you could go for the George Foreman GR2144P. This model can still cook a lot of food all at once, but is much smaller, making it better for indoor use on the countertop. This model also doubles as a Panini press, making it even more versatile.

If you want to grill for your family during weekends, there are not many options that can top the George Foreman GFS0090SB. This is especially true for winter, or when you don’t have a backyard, you can use it for grilling. The fact that it produces almost no smoke helps, and you can easily take apart the pieces and put them in a dishwasher.
